Warm hearts meet need

Once again, generous Surrey residents behaved more like Santa than Scrooge this holiday season. The city's two high-profile helping agencies The Surrey Food Bank and The Surrey Christmas Bureau are reporting December donations that were on par with or better than previous years. Robin Campbell, executive director of The Surrey Food Bank, says over the holidays, $180,000 in cash was donated from individuals, unions and an increasing number of businesses. "Temples, churches and hundreds and hundreds of individuals were rolling up with donations" Campbell says. In addition, 170,000 pounds of food arrived, with students from elementary and secondary schools responsible for more than half the amount. "They're our meat and potatoes" Campbell says of local youth. Campbell says the generosity extends beyond money and food. "Double D Auto Service fixes all our vehicles for free" she says. "We have a fabulous partnership with the community"

This is a note to tell you how much we appreciated your help with the engine replacement you recently completed on our Jeep Grand Cherokee. Your services were recommended by my long time, favourite mechanic, Steve Romaniuk, plus two major engine rebuilding plants. Our problem was excessive horizontal movement of the crankshaft in a 5.2 L V-8 Chrysler engine. After inspection, you recommended replacement of the engine.

I was impressed by your efficient methods in locating a nearly new engine, then completing the necessary modifications to install it in our Jeep. The overall experience with your shop has been outstanding. The final invoice for the job was lower than the price originally estimated and the job was completed in a very short time. The engine has performed beyond our expectations and has improved our fuel consumption by 10%.

You surprised me when you suggested a "follow up" inspection after 500 km. Most of the shops I've dealt with in the past offer a guarantee that lasts only until the bill is paid, then they don't want to see you again if there are problems. Your serious interest in customer satisfaction is evident. We will recommend your shop to our friends. That may mean that you will become so busy that we'll need to wait 2 weeks for an appointment. Anyway, thank you for the great service, We'll be back!

Dear Dave,

I just wanted to write you a quick thank you note for all the work that you have performed on my 1987 Honda Prelude SE. The car is very dear to my heart and I would like to keep driving it for a while. I keep looking at other cars but I can't find one that, in my opinion, looks as good.

Anyway your service is the best and I like the way you spend time with my friends that I have referred to you explaining to them what is mechanically wrong with their vehicles in lingo that they understand. Dave, this service will come back to you ten fold by word of mouth advertising. I always carry your business cards with me as I believe you are the best service shop in the Lower Mainland (well probably BC but that is a bit far for some customers to travel).
